Full Circle Moments: Meeting Rachel Hollis

I live in Indiana, so it takes a miracle to get me to leave my house in winter. But, when I had the opportunity to meet Rachel Hollis, I bought tickets for me and my friend Alison, and we drove two and a half hours there and two and a half hours back without thinking twice! I am taking every chance opportunity to complete full-circle moments this year!

I thought I was going to be so laid back and cool! She’s just another human, right? Ha! I pictured everything I would say to her for three weeks. I have seen book signings on tv and I was so excited!
When we walked into the auditorium where she was speaking before the signing, I was shocked! It was an intimate setting with enough seats for 200 at most! She was just as cool talking to us as I expected! She told us about ways that she used the One More Decision theory. To summarize, one more decision can be the one decision to change our lives. This was a theory that I learned from Ed Mylett that I used to help me quit smoking. Go one more hour Crystal. Go one more day Crystal. That was seven months ago, I’m still going. When she said the words One More Decision, I got the full-circle moments buzz.

They called us out for the meet and greet, twenty people at a time. I talked to a few people in line, and they encouraged me to give Rachel the poem after I explained how nervous I was. When it was my turn to have her sign my book, I said, “One more decision, right?!” She smiled at me and said, “Absolutely!” Completely out of my comfort zone, I handed her the poem!

After I handed her she thanked me and set it next to her, she looked up at me and said, “Oh my God, you smell amazing!” She looked down at the Post-it with my name on it and said, “Seriously!” I lost all of the words I had planned to say. All thoughts escaped me. I was speechless! Breathless! I was contemplating reaching over her to grab the poem to the right of her.
By the time my brain caught up to what just happened, the lady holding my phone to take our picture was saying, “Smile!” I couldn’t contain my smile if I tried. I smiled! Big, showing teeth, which is not normal for me. I was smiling from the inside out!

What I wanted to say, “Thank you, Rachel Hollis! I mixed it myself! It’s lemongrass, patchouli, and palo santo!” But there were just no words for me. I put them all on the paper. As with most spur-of-the-moment poetry, I put my pencil to paper and handed off the only copy.
One of the lessons she has taught me throughout her books is it’s okay to be scared, make the moves to move forward anyway. Do it scared. And I did. One of the best things that I ever started doing for myself is finding the things that light me up and just doing them, even when scared.
After that, I got home and did a Google search on poetry. How to write better, courses I can take, and how to get it into the world. I began compiling what I have from the past few years and categorizing it in a Word document. I found a contest and entered a ten-piece collection that I will hear back about in a few weeks. From that entry, the poetry world sent me an invitation for unpublished writers to enter another contest. I’m working on it now. One more decision has changed my life already. Whether I win or lose, I’m creating. I’m sharing. I’m being. FULL CIRCLE MOMENTS.
